    Description

Discover the sights and highlights of four stunning destinations in Arctic Norway and go in search of the spectacular Northern Lights on this enchanting cruise, sailing aboard Balmoral. After spending just two days at sea, plenty of time to settle into the comfortable surroundings of your home-from-home with all its facilities, you will arrive in Narvik. Although over 400km north of the Arctic Circle, Narvik’s harbour is ice-free and in use all year as a port for iron ore exports. Although inhabited since prehistoric times, the town was not established until 1903 when the Ofoten Railway was completed. Narvik will present your first opportunity to encounter Arctic Norway’s stunning scenery and enjoy a spectacular train ride across the border into Sweden. Enjoy an evening on board Balmoral, when there is a chance you will get to marvel at the vibrant colours of the Aurora Borealis, Mother Nature’s spellbinding light show, while wrapped up warm on the ship’s decks.

Alta is described as ‘one of the best places on earth to witness the Northern Lights in winter’. It is a truly magical destination, originally inhabited by the indigenous Sami people, the area has a fascinating cultural history. An included dog sled ride through the winter wonderland gives a chance to meet these enigmatic characters, understanding the lives of these Arctic experts. An abundance of unique Arctic sights and experiences will await you in Tromsø. We include the iconic iceberg-shaped Arctic Cathedral, the Polaria Centre and a ride in the cable car up Mount Storsteinen to admire the unspoilt views from the top. Lastly, a call into Bodø situated on the beautiful Kystriksveien Coastal Route, this historic town boasts breathtaking rugged scenery, quaint fishing villages and skies populated by soaring sea eagles.
