Flight FAQs
Please note: We work hard to ensure the information displayed here is accurate. However, airlines can (and do) make changes without notice so this page should be considered for guidance purposes only. The exact details applicable to your journey will be shared with you in the weeks before you travel as part of your pre-holiday information pack. Please check this carefully, as details may differ from those provided when you made your booking.
Some holidays include short domestic flights within the destination country. These may be with different airlines to your main carrier and their luggage allowances, cabin layout, and other details may differ. Wherever possible, we will provide as much information about these flights to help you prepare.
If you travel from our main departure airport (Heathrow, Gatwick or London City), we fly with quality national airlines such as British Airways, Sri Lankan Airlines, Lufthansa & Oman Air. On these flights, on-board refreshments may be included on journeys lasting five hours or more.
Subject to availability, yes! Upon request, we can investigate direct flight possibilities from your local airport to your holiday destination*. If you land before the main group, you will generally meet with them upon their arrival and continue to your hotel together. Guests arriving after the main group may require the services of a local representative and a separate taxi transfer to the hotel.
Domestic flights to the main London airport can also be arranged*. These may require an overnight stay at an airport hotel if the main flight is an early departure. In such circumstances, you may wish to join our Pre-Holiday Get-Together.

Enhance your special holiday with extra comfort and arrive in style!
Make your holiday experience that little bit extra special by upgrading your flight seat. Dedicated check-in desks with priority boarding, larger, more comfortable seating, enhanced in-flight menus and a smaller, more exclusive cabin all help to make your journey feel like a part of the holiday itself. For further upgrade information please enquire at the time of booking.
If you request to upgrade your seat for your flight, we’ll need to send your request to the airline to obtain a quote. This can sometimes mean a wait for a response from us during peak travel times. We’ll always let you know as soon as we have the quote to hand.
Unfortunately, not. Reserving your seat online requires a unique booking reference (sometimes known as a PNR). Our flights are booked for a group rather than individually. This means all guests and our Tour Manager share the same booking reference.
We know how important it is for our guests to be comfortable during their flights. Our Flights team will collect any seating preferences you provided when booking your holiday and pass these on to the airline before your journey. We try to ensure your wishes are adhered to but cannot guarantee this will always be the case as such requests are beyond our control. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any bookings made on the condition that certain seating is provided. You may be able to change your seat at the check-in desk, subject to availability.
Flight times will be confirmed in writing two to three weeks before departure. Flight times can change occasionally. We will inform you by phone or in writing if there is a significant alteration.
Yes. If you depart from our main departure airport, you should meet your representative and fellow travellers before checking in. This will generally be your Tour Manager. From this point, you will be escorted throughout your holiday and return home on the same flight as your Tour Manager.
All our holidays are fully escorted. You will be met at the check-in desk by a One Traveller representative and will check in for your flight at the same time as your fellow travellers. You won’t be left alone unless you choose to be, so you should always know where to go and when.
If you require extra help to get around the terminal, Airport Assistance is a free service offered by the airport or railway station to help less mobile travellers. It must be arranged before departure, and we advise you to inform us at the time of booking or at least seven days beforehand if you require such assistance**. Failure to do so may lead to delays at the airport.
If you feel that you may struggle walking from the check-in counter and luggage-drop to the departure gate, please do note that the distance is usually no greater than a mile - the distance we recommend guests can walk unattended on all our holidays – and will often include opportunities to join moving walkways. This should hopefully stand as a benchmark for you. For more help and information on our mobility policy, please click here.
**Some airlines need to know why assistance is required and will ask specific details of the individual’s mobility issues before confirming a request.
Airline Luggage Allowance
Knowing how many pieces of luggage you can take on a flight is a crucial step in preparing for your journey. Knowing the maximum weight and dimensions for each item is also important to help avoid unexpected excess baggage charges at the airport.
To help you prepare for your holiday, we’ve created a handy checklist of what you can likely expect from your airline based on the seating category you have chosen.

Airline FAQ's
Our pre-holiday information pack includes all the details you need to get to the airport and check in on time for your holiday, including which terminal you are flying from. We’ll send your pack around two to three weeks before you depart. To help with your journey plans to the airport, most airlines tend to stick to set schedules and terminals, meaning you can often look up your flight information in advance***.

It is an unfortunate fact of flying that journeys can occasionally be delayed or cancelled due to circumstances outside of our control. When such situations occur, we will contact you as soon as possible to discuss the change of plan if you haven’t yet checked in for your flight. If you are already at the airport, your Tour Manager or One Traveller representative will be with you and will ensure all members of the party remain informed of any new and revised arrangements.
Flight delays are usually very minor. The time lost can sometimes even be made up in the air. There are certain situations, however, where a delay or cancellation becomes more significant. Travellers have legal rights here, including the right to claim expenses and / or compensation depending on the exact situation. You can read more about claiming expenses and statutory compensation from British Airways here.
Other airlines based in the UK and EU are generally subject to the same rules, so your rights are very similar regardless of who you fly with. Airlines based outside the UK and Europe can be subject to different rules, depending on the journey being taken.
One Traveller cannot claim compensation on behalf of our guests if a flight is cancelled or delayed. Nor can we investigate existing compensation claims or tell you the likely outcome of a claim. It must be the individual named on the ticket who submits the claim, and this will be responded to directly by the airline. One Traveller will not be informed when a claim is lodged, nor the outcome.
Should your flight be severely delayed or cancelled, everyone’s priority will be to get you on your way as soon as possible with as little inconvenience as possible. Upon your return home, a member of our team will contact you and further information will be provided to help with any compensation or expenses claim you may wish to make.
International rail travel can occasionally be subject to delays and cancellations due to circumstances outside of our control. When such situations occur, we will contact you as soon as possible to discuss the change of plan if you haven’t yet checked in. If you are already at the station, your Tour Manager will be with you and will ensure all members of the party remain informed of any new and revised arrangements.
There are certain situations where a delay or cancellation may entitle you to compensation. You can read more about claiming expenses and statutory compensation from Eurostar here.

We all like to bring a souvenir home from our holidays. Whether it’s a delicious artisan liquor bought directly from a local supplier or a last-minute bargain bottle of plonk from the airport, there’s usually something to tempt us during our travels. But how much duty-free can you bring home? When do you need to declare your shopping and when do you start paying import taxes?
On your return to Great Britain (Northern Ireland is a little different*), there are limits on the number of goods you can import without making a customs declaration or paying additional duty at the border. These amounts are subject to change without notice. The latest details will always be published here.
Please note that Eurostar operates its own rules concerning the amount of alcohol travellers may carry with them or consume during their journey. You can read more about this here.
Look out for the Useful Information Sheet that we’ll send you shortly after you’ve booked your holiday. Here, we include more personalised details about duty-free allowances, plus other considerations about what you can take into your holiday destination and bring home with you.
*The duty-free allowances for Northern Ireland vary depending on whether you’re travelling from inside or outside the EU. You can read more about these allowances here.
