Escape the winter to a warmer climate, where a touch of the exotic is closer to home than you would think. Under French rule from 1912 to 1956, Morocco is where European flavours blend with North African culture to create a feast for the senses.
Morocco is a magic carpet ride from the Sahara to the snow-dusted High Atlas Mountains; from Marrakech's thronging medinas to petal-strewn serenity in a Fez riad (traditional house). It is a place where spirituality rises with the first adhan (call to prayer), where cities are urban labyrinths and where runaway donkeys rule the souks.
This holiday takes in the bustling Art Deco port and the silver-screen legend which is Casablanca. The symmetry of Hassan II, the largest mosque outside Mecca, is breathtaking. Ancient and modern collide in the tree-fringed boulevards of the European-influenced capital, Rabat. Inland, the Imperial cities of Marrakech and Fez whisk you back to the Middle Ages, where donkey carts rattle down the streets of walled medinas.
“Morocco has a multitude of influences. French, Spanish and North African with mild-mannered friendly folk. For me the souk in Fez is a feast for all the senses and I have always adored the wide-open spaces with the peaks of the Atlas Mountains and the tranquillity whilst watching the sun set over the Sahara.”
