    Description

Beethoven is still considered one of the greatest innovators in music history. He was born in Bonn in 1770, and in 2020 Bonn will celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth. The traces he left behind in the city are still visible: his birth house and the Bonn Beethoven Festival, held every year in September, bear witness to the 22 years during which he left his mark on the city. His musical genius and love of nature were awakened in the Rhine Valley and Bonn's picturesque countryside which we also visit on this holiday.

Staying in a renovated former monastery that is now a four-star hotel in the heart of Bonn, you will walk in the footsteps of the great master close to your hotel, as well as enjoying two concerts from renowned international artists. In addition, this holiday will also feature Jean Phillips, our accompanying pianist who will give four recitals; one being in the dramatic setting of a 19th century castle in a commanding position overlooking the Rhine.

Enjoy visits to nearby Cologne and the Rhine Valley to explore the paintings that depict the scenes from Wagner’s The Ring of the Nibelungen, in a beautiful Art Deco hall. Also, the Ahr Valley, a quiet and picturesque tributary of the Rhine, stretches 89km and is where the best red wines of Germany are grown. We enjoy a tasting and then return by a scenic train ride through the valley.
