    Description

Perched proudly on the Iberian North-Atlantic coast, the fabled Basque region has its own language, culinary traditions and a distinctive geographic and cultural landscape. Explore modern landmarks and sample world-class food and wine, as we show you what makes the Basque Country so special.

Lekeitio lies between the three main Basque cities which are all just around an hour away and we include a guided tour in each. The capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, with its wonderfully preserved medieval centre has winding cobbled streets and pintxos bars as well as the imposing 13th-century Cathedral Santa María. San Sebastián, with its elegant art nouveau buildings, ornate bridges and beautifully manicured parks and plazas has a relaxed feel. Bilbao houses The Guggenheim which is more than an art museum: this striking modern architectural landmark is a nod to the city’s shipbuilding past and an unmistakable emblem of Bilbao itself.

The region's cuisine, built around authentic and local products like cured meats, salt cod, sheep's and goat's cheeses, piquillo peppers and fresh anchovies, will be brought to life with a cookery lesson, where you will enjoy the fruits of your labour. To wash it down we visit Plentzia Bay and the Crusoe Treasure Winery, the first underwater winery and artificial reef in the world! We also visit the Rioja wine region to see the stunning medieval city of Laguardia. Salud!
