4 New Year’s Eve – Lake cruise & Mt Rigi Cog Railway

New Year’s Eve – Lake cruise & Mt Rigi Cog Railway

Morning: take a boat trip on Lake Lucerne, which is an experience in itself, to the Mt. Rigi Cog Railway, which has been taking visitors up the ‘Queen of the Mountains’ from Vitznau since 1871. At Rigi Kulm you'll find a majestic 360° panorama (hopefully) with views of the Swiss plateau and as far as the Black Forest, the Vosges mountains and the ring of mountains from the Glarus Alps to the Bernese Alps.

Afternoon: journey back down by cogwheel railway to Rigi Kaltbad, and from there travel by aerial cable car to Weggis before travelling by coach to the hotel.

Evening: New Year’s Eve gala dinner, in the beautifully decorated salon with round tables for eight to ten people. After a welcome by the hotel manager, festivities will begin: lavish hors d’oeuvres buffet, main course with ceremonial chefs’ procession, then an exquisite devilish dessert buffet, decorated with ice and food sculptures and fruit carvings. The band will play between courses and well into the night. A fireworks display shortly after midnight will herald in the New Year, when the sounds of the fireworks dramatically ricochet across the mountains.

All house wines, beer, juices, soft drinks, tea and coffee are included throughout the evening and into the wee hours! A glass of Champagne will also be served at midnight.

    5 Engelberg

Morning: a later start today, Engelberg is the home of the ski jump championships and a monastery famous for its own cheese. Why not enjoy a cheese fondue or a horse and sleigh ride or perhaps take the ride to the top of  Mt. Titlis (over 10,000 ft) via the panoramic rotating cable car (at extra cost), for an unsurpassable panorama.

Afternoon: return to the hotel to enjoy your resort, relax and refresh.

Evening: farewell drinks reception followed by dinner with included drinks.

6 Europe’s Steepest funicular and flight home

Europe’s Steepest funicular and flight home

Morning: running from the valley floor in the town of Schwyz the Stoosbahn was 14 years in the making and has been praised for its revolutionary design, with four cylindrical cabins that adjust to changes in gradient so the floor is always level.

Afternoon: continue to Zurich Airport for the return flight to the U.K.
