    Description

A cultural blend of Central Europe and the Mediterranean gives Croatia its unique flavour. Located on the country’s Adriatic coast is the fashionable town of Opatija; with its Habsburg-era villas dominating the skyline and its picturesque promenade offering visitors a wealth of scenic beauty.

Opatija was given to Yugoslavia as part of the peace treaty with Italy at the end of World War II; most of the Italian-speaking population emigrated across the border to the coastal towns of Italy. It was not until after the break-up of Yugoslavia that the town became part of Croatia. Since then its popularity has been steadily increasing and the town now receives over 500,000 visitors each year. Opatija and the picturesque surrounding towns and nearby islands are the hidden gems of Croatia, offering travellers plenty of sun, sea and scenery.

This laidback holiday includes a visit to the stunning island of Krk, one of Croatia’s largest islands and home to incredible beaches, with their crystal-clear turquoise waters and an array of attractive coastal towns rich in history and charm. We include half board and explore local restaurants for dinner on four evenings as well as including four lunches, one with a wine tasting at a family-run winery to get the true local flavour!
