    Description

Come and indulge in a passion for opera and ballet in like-minded company at one of the most famous opera houses in the world. Known in Italian as Teatro alla Scala, it has premièred great works by the likes of Bellini and Puccini, and scores of glittering débuts have been made here, by virtuosos as diverse as Maria Callas and Paganini. As you and your companions enter to enjoy two magnificent performances, marvel at the grand foyer and as you take your main floor seats and see the magnificent Bohemian crystal chandelier that lights up the stage.

Staying five nights in the heart of Milan, where since Leonardo da Vinci broke all the rules in his stunning Last Supper, the indefatigably inventive Milanese seem to have skipped straight from the Renaissance to the 1900s. Not only is Milan a treasure trove of 20th-century art, but art deco and rationalist architecture abound. None more than the magnificent Galleria Vittoria Emanuele II shopping mall.

Excursions will be taken to nearby medieval Cremona, famed for violin-making, the most famous being Antonio Stradivari, who crafted over 1,000 stringed instruments in an 80-year career. Also, Parma, the city that gave the world a composer called Verdi and enough ham and cheese to start a deli chain.
