The Harbin Ice Lantern Festival started in 1963 in a small park and has expanded to cover an entire island in the Songhua River and is now the worlds largest snow and ice festival. The inspiration is taken from Chinese poetry, legends, history, and more recently the monuments and famous buildings of the world, including life-size Egyptian pyramids, German fairy-tale castles and horse-drawn sleds. The park is surrounded by a replica of The Great Wall in ice and it is estimated that over five million lights are used. Thousands of people in the city work for a month to create the structures.
This trip of a lifetime is packed with wonderful sights! In Beijing, you will see the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, experience life in the old Hu-Tong area in a rickshaw and have lunch with a local family; you will travel to Xian on the bullet train to see the Terracotta Warriors.
