Our Product Team recently attended the World Travel Market where they spoke with many of our Delhi suppliers, who reminded us that these high levels of pollution often occur after the fireworks and oil lamp burning during the Diwali Festival, but due to the weather earlier in the year the rice crop has coincided to make it far far worse.
Legislation is being swiftly brought in to act on this (stated today by the tourism ministry) as India has an excess of rice that they cant sell in this area. Also, traffic limitations have begun as well and in a few days it should clear and a huge lesson has been learnt. Rain is also forecast in Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday (our next group arrive late Thursday night) which should massively alleviate the situation. Outside of Delhi Jaipur, Udaipur and other cities visited on our tour are enjoying clear skies.
