Winston Churchill once described Russia as "a riddle wrapped in a mystery surrounded by an enigma"; these are perfect words to describe this must see country.

Just a short flight away (three and a half hours) it is amazing how different everything is once you get there. The country is beautiful in so many ways. Here are 5 great reasons to book a trip with One Traveller to this beautiful part of the world this year:

1. The architecture
St. Basil's cathedral, The Red Square, The Kremlin, The Bolshoi Theatre...and that is just Moscow. St. Petersburg is desribed as "Disneyland for adults"; the leagacy left by the Romanov Royal family is amazing and it has to be seen to be believed.

2. The Literary History
Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Pushkin, Chekhov, Nabokov, Bulgakov, Gogol... all of these great authors – and more – lived and worked in Russia.

3. The Art History
The art collection in the St. Petersburg Hermitage Museum is enough to occupy you for days...in Moscow the Armoury houses the Faberge eggs and that’s only one small part of all the art that you can see in Russia.

4. The Tsarist and Communist History
See how the Tsars lived at Catherine the Great’s Palace and at Peter the Great’s Summer Palace. Then, visit Lenin’s tomb, take a look at the old KGB headquarters and take in the Soviet-era architecture that you will find in the nooks and crannies of these two great Russian cities.

5. The food (and drinks!)
You must try traditional Russian food at least once in your life – it’s quite a unique experience. Of course, if you like vodka, Russia is the place to go, but Russian champagne may perhaps pleasantly surprise you as well.

The Visa process recently changed in Russia but don't let that put you off, it hasn't put our guests off; to summarise - anyone wishing to go to Russia must attend the Russian Embassy in either London or Edinburgh in person for a fingerprint scan. This is a straight forward procedure and can be tied in with a visit to see friends or as part of a day out.

As our previous guests know and future guests will soon learn, We will take care of everything for you; all your paperwork whilst preparing you for the visit to the Embassy which will be about six to eight weeks before the date of your holiday. We have even researched the new Visa process thoroughly, having sent someone down in person to apply for one so we are fully aware of what is required both from us and, you as our guests.

All of our departures to Russia will definitely be going ahead so what is there to stop you? If you want a tip on the best time to travel then why not go in July for the 'white nights' period where you wil experience just that...white nights a truly beautiful sight.
