ABTA and ATOL protection and what this means for you

When you book your package holiday with One Traveller, you’ll benefit from the protections offered by either the Civil Aviation Authority’s ATOL certification scheme, or our ABTA bonding. “But what does this actually mean, and what, if any, are the advantages incurred by having these protections?” we hear you ask. Allow us to explain…
First, lets look at ABTA. If you book a holiday with us that doesn’t involve getting on an aeroplane, such as our UK holidays, ocean cruises with Fred.Olsen or our (new for 2021) holidays by Eurostar, you’ll be financially protected by our ABTA bonding. This means that if the very worst happens to One Traveller before or during your holiday, you can still enjoy your break or receive a full refund. As members of ABTA, we must also abide by their Code of Conduct. This regulates how we behave in relation to all our holidays. Many (but not all) UK travel companies are ABTA members and the Code of Conduct aims to uphold consistent high standards throughout the travel industry.
ABTA can also be useful in a more general sense, thanks to their online travel advice, FAQs and guides. These cover everything from understanding your rights, to keeping safe on holiday, to providing an independent complaint handling platform.

Many One Traveller holidays involve flying to your destination. When you book such a holiday, a flight inclusive package, you’re covered by our ATOL certification and we’ll send you an ATOL certificate with your confirmation paperwork. This is an important document that you should keep safe and take with you when you travel. It is your proof of the type holiday you have booked, the start and end dates and where you are travelling to and from. Just like our ABTA bonding, if the worst were to happen to One Traveller before or during your holiday, your ATOL certificate would allow you to either continue your holiday or receive a refund.
You may recall the recent demise of Thomas Cook and Monarch Airlines, which left many travellers potentially stranded abroad or unable to take their holidays. However, thanks to each company’s ATOL arrangements, their guests were able to continue their holidays and then return home again or receive a refund if they had not yet departed.
